Renowned Pashto writer, poet Zaitoon Bano passes away

Presidential award Winning Urdu and Pashto poet and writer , Zaitoon Bano passed away today at the age of 82 after facing serious illness in last few months.

Her literary, poet and writer journey was more than 62 years . Her pen name was “Moor Bibi”. She was also known as Khatoon-e-Awal  (First Lady) of Pashto Fiction . Honourary title was awarded to her for her efforts , dedication and fight for the rights of common Pashtun Women. 

Her literary journey was started, when she was in ninth grade in 1958 with HINDARA . HINDARA (means Mirror) was her first short story in 1958.

She wrote different books (Poetry , literature) and short stories in Pashto and Urdu Language.

She was born to Pir Syed Sultan Mahmood Shah in Sufaid Dheri village of Peshawar. She was married to Taj Saeed and was granddaughter of Pir Syed Abdul Qudus Tundar, a Pashto poet.
