Floodings | Callousness, chaos, and confusion | MI Mazhar

Opinion
In the midst of all the callousness, chaos, and confusion Pakistan needs leadership that could sail this country through one of the worst public health crises. Over 75% of districts in Sindh province are still flooded - and many roads are underwater, the BBC has recently reported. However, Pakistan's political leadership and notoriously wealthy families have shown a callous heart to the flood-affected communities. This has shown a chaotic performance in the face of recent phenomenal floods. The textile industry has nearly collapsed in aftermath of the massive flooding.  and the UN has increased flood aid appeals for Pakistan. The World body is now seeking $816m for flood-relief efforts, up from the initial appeal in August for $160m. The government of the Sindh province est...

The Concept of Protocol in Pakistan | Chaudhry Muhammad Latif

Opinion
By Chaudhry Muhammad Latif The concept of protocol in Pakistan is a legacy of colonial British rule, who had devised a system of divide and rule for their colonies. They created tiers of jagirdar, zaildar, numberdar and chaukidar. In states there were Mahrajas, Ameers, Nawabs, Sardars, and Chiefs of tribes. Theoretically there were two systems of governance in the world, in addition to a separate colonial rule. One system is followed by the British and their previous colonies. The other system is practiced by the United States, China, Russia, South Korea etc. The British system cherished status-minded system with special prestigious epithets and designations like Prime Minister, Ministers, Chiefs, Generals, Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Ambassadors etc. The second syste...

The Kashmir question in the UN

Opinion
/Madiha Shakil Khan/ India took the matter of Jammu and Kashmir to the Security Council on 1st January 1948 and lodged a formal complaint against Pakistan. In reply, Pakistan lodged a counter-complaint against India on 15th January 1948 and had also requested the Security Council to deal with other disputes between India and Pakistan, including Junagadh. As a result, a Security Council meeting was held on 16th January, 1948 with the agenda “Jammu and Kashmir Question” in which the Kashmir issue was discussed. Again, on 20th January, 1948 Zafarullah Khan wrote a letter to the President of the Security Council to call another meeting as earlier as possible to discuss all issues between India and Pakistan, other than Jammu and Kashmir. The next meeting of the Security Coun...
