Ever since we have got indulged in too much of a burdensome routine, our life has become more vulnerable to miss the valuable opportunities. Procrastination is delaying or putting off the things, duties and tasks to be done indefinitely in future. Procrastination is an attitude that gradually becomes a habit and then a lifestyle.
As human life revolves around the responsibilities and demands dutifulness for every age and assignment. By putting off the tasks for the next hour, day, or uncertain period of time, we are more likely to miss the productive opportunities. This results in stressful situations as the deadlines approach and eventually the drained efficiency.
Let’s discuss some practical tips to get away with this attitude of delaying tasks.
Setting the Targets
When we set the long-term, short term or any other targets to be achieved before the deadlines, we are halfway to our final destination. Take the time to write down your goals and prioritize them based on their importance. The more important the goal, the more preferred position in the list and vice versa.
Create To-do List
Consider all your daily chores and seriously create a detailed To-Do list. Place it somewhere visible, like on your door, refrigerator, or in your walkway, so it catches your eye each time you pass by. This constant reminder will motivate you to stay on the track and complete your unfinished tasks.
Identify the Factors
Motivation is the driving force that keeps you going and it takes a lot to overcome. However, it will involve a considerable amount of hard work and determination at your end. Just find and hold onto some reason to stay motivated.
Concrete Plan for Goals
Break down the long winding road to your goal in small connected steps. Commit yourself to the plan, try the one-at-a-time rule to jumping from one checkpoint to the next. Keep moving forward until you reach your desired milestone.
Find Supporters
Concentrate on overcoming the obstacles you face in your path, and sometimes, it’s necessary to silence your inner voice if you feel you might lose your interest. Try it another way round, you can ask someone from your close circle of friends or family to pat you on your back and give gentle reminders to keep you motivated and focused on your goals.
As always, striving for something new or better is no easy task. It takes a lot of effort to make history. Along the journey to your goals, setbacks, failures, dejections and rejections are part of the process—what matters is that you never give up. Sometimes we walk, sometimes we run, and sometimes we crawl, but the key is to keep moving forward, no matter what. Stay focused, and remember: don’t procrastinate!
